The unpaid wages of 5,832 labor camp inmates have been collected by the Abu Dhabi Labour Court, totaling AED 42.8 million ($11.4 million).
The collective dispute case was closed in a “record time of less than two months,” the court said in a statement on Wam.
“The labor court took prompt legal measures to register the claims, consider the cases and deliver its decisions with expedited enforcement,” it added.
The dues were handed over by mail to the workers in their respective labor camps.
The UAE’s Ministry of Human Resource and Emiritisation earlier updated its Wage Protection System to address the issue of late wages.
It said it will monitor companies through field visits and inspections as part of the new resolution.
Additionally, it will impose sanctions on businesses based on their size, the length of the salary delays, and the number of affected employees.
