Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed enhancement works at 22 public bus stations across the emirate, including 16 passengers stations and six depots, as part of its continued efforts to improve urban mobility and expand the public transport network.
This development aligns with RTA’s strategic objectives to raise service quality and provide seamless, efficient transport solutions for both residents and visitors. The upgraded facilities aim to support increased public transport usage, offering a safer and more comfortable commuting experience.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at the RTA, said the project reflects the authority’s commitment to strengthening public transport infrastructure. “The bus depots are essential for maintaining and cleaning our fleet of 1,387 buses,” he noted, according to the Dubai Media Office.
Al Tayer added that the role of bus stations has been redefined to go beyond traditional waiting areas. “We ensured the stations offer integrated services that enhance journeys—improved amenities, inclusive designs for People of Determination, support for cyclists, and better links to Dubai Metro and taxi services,” he said.
The scope of work included the modernisation of 16 passenger stations—nine in Deira and seven in Bur Dubai. Enhancements covered the refurbishment of waiting areas, renovation of building façades, upgraded pavements, and improved infrastructure systems. Prayer spaces were also added to cater to commuters’ needs.
These improved stations serve 110 bus routes, handling a combined peak-hour capacity of approximately 710 buses.
