The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has issued limited-edition gold and silver commemorative coins in tribute to the ‘Zayed and Rashid’ campaign. These coins pay homage to the lasting legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum (may they rest in peace), acknowledging their foundational roles in the formation of the Union and the strengthening of the UAE’s national identity.
The gold coin, weighing 40 grams and measuring 40 mm in diameter, features portraits of Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid on the obverse. The reverse side bears the national emblem of the UAE, surrounded by the inscription “Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates” in both Arabic and English. This exclusive coin is available solely at the Central Bank’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
Weighing 50 grams and with a diameter of 50 mm, the silver coin similarly depicts both leaders on the front. The reverse includes the UAE emblem, the Central Bank’s name in Arabic and English, along with the phrase “Commemorative Coin” in Arabic. The silver version can be purchased via the Central Bank’s official website.
Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of the CBUAE, underscored the importance of the release, stating: “We are proud to announce the issuance of these commemorative coins, which symbolise loyalty and belonging to the national heritage left by the founding fathers… This initiative, launched under the ‘Zayed and Rashid’ campaign, seeks to reinforce the values of unity and progress that underpin our nation, while shedding light on key milestones in their leadership journeys.” He reaffirmed the Central Bank’s dedication to preserving the UAE’s historical legacy and passing it on to future generations.
