Dubai will introduce an official population registry to consolidate vital demographic data. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, has issued Resolution No. (50) of 2024, establishing a unified registry for real-time population information.
The registry aims to centralise and update population data accurately, supporting the development of government policies and strategies. It will also assist in future population forecasting, improve government services, and align with Dubai’s digital transformation goals. Managed by the Dubai Data and Statistics Establishment, it will be the sole source of population data for the emirate.
The establishment will oversee data management, security, and integration with other records. It will also ensure data privacy and accessibility for people with disabilities, in collaboration with the Dubai Cyber Security Centre. The Dubai Electronic Security Centre will ensure the security of the platform and its integration.
Data providers from both public and private sectors must adhere to quality standards, update data regularly, and coordinate with the Dubai Data and Statistics Establishment. This resolution maintains existing legal protections for personal data as per Law No. (26) of 2015. The Director-General of the Dubai Digital Authority will implement this resolution, which will be effective from its issuance and published in the Official Gazette.
