Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a significant change to the minimum top-up requirement for nol cards used on the Dubai Metro. Starting August 17, 2024, passengers will need to add at least AED50 when recharging their nol cards at Metro ticket offices.
The RTA’s decision comes as part of its broader initiative to streamline the payment process and, in addition, improve the efficiency of fare collection.
The new policy aims to facilitate smoother transactions and better manage the flow of passengers across the city’s extensive metro network.
In a recent update on X (formerly Twitter), the RTA shared, “Your #PublicTransport trips are smoother with #RTA’s digital services. Top up your nol Card anywhere with the amount you want via nol Pay app, RTA website or RTA Dubai app, to secure your trip and save time. Starting August 17, 2024, the minimum top-up at Metro station ticket offices will increase to AED 50.” This change underscores the RTA’s commitment to enhancing the user experience by encouraging the adoption of digital payment solutions.
Passengers are encouraged to take advantage of various online and mobile platforms to manage their nol card balances more flexibly. The RTA’s nol Pay mobile application, the RTA website, and the RTA Dubai app offer convenient alternatives for recharging nol cards. Users can top up their cards with their chosen amount and avoid the new minimum at ticket offices.
Additionally, users can top up their nol cards at Metro stations and recharge them at ENOC/EPPCO petrol stations across Dubai. These options provide greater convenience and flexibility and cater to the diverse needs of commuters throughout the city.
The RTA aims to promote digital transactions and reduce cash handling by adjusting the minimum top-up amount, which will support the overall efficiency and modernization of Dubai’s public transportation system. The RTA remains committed to offering a seamless and user-friendly travel experience for all Metro passengers.
