Streamlined Visa Application Process for UAE Residents by VFS Global
Starting September 1, travelers from the UAE can apply for Japanese e-visas through VFS Global. This new system simplifies the process for both short-term and long-term visa applications. VThe company has set up dedicated visa application centers at Wafi Mall in Dubai and The Mall in Abu Dhabi to facilitate these applications.
On Thursday, VFS Global and the Japanese missions in the UAE officially opened these centers. Travelers can secure appointments online at no additional cost. However, they must pay a service fee of Dh100 at the centers, alongside the visa fee. Previously, the e-visa service was suspended for some UAE residents in April, requiring them to apply directly through the consulate. This direct application process is now phased out, and VFS Global will handle the applications moving forward.
Imanishi Jun, the Consul General of Japan in Dubai, explained the collaboration with VFS Global by noting the growing demand for visa services.
He said, “We hope those wishing to travel to Japan will benefit from more convenient and faster visa services. We also hope this center will promote people-to-people exchanges between Japan, the UAE, and Dubai. Additionally, we aim to further develop bilateral relations between our two countries.”
It is important to note that VFS Global‘s involvement is limited to administrative tasks. They are responsible for collecting visa applications and supporting documents as outlined in the checklist. The decision to grant or deny visas rests solely with the Japanese Embassy and Consulate, as the Visa company does not influence this process.
