Indian expats in the UAE are set to benefit from increased flight options and lower fares as IndiGo expands its services between the two countries. The low-cost carrier has announced three new routes connecting Abu Dhabi with Mangaluru, Coimbatore, and Tiruchirappalli, starting from August.
The new flights will operate with frequencies ranging from three to seven days a week, offering travelers more flexibility and convenience. Introductory fares as low as Dh330 one-way have been announced, making air travel more affordable for the large Indian diaspora in the UAE.
The UAE-India air corridor is one of the world’s busiest, driven by the significant Indian population working and living in the Gulf nation. The strong demand, especially during peak travel periods, has often led to soaring ticket prices. IndiGo’s expansion is expected to alleviate some of the pressure on fares.
“With the addition of these flights, IndiGo now operates 89 non-stop flights a week to Abu Dhabi from 13 cities in India,” said Vinay Malhotra, head of global sales at IndiGo. “We are committed to providing affordable and convenient travel options for our customers.”
The airline’s decision to expand its services comes as Abu Dhabi Airport continues to witness robust passenger traffic. Data from the first quarter of 2024 shows that Mumbai, Kochi, and Delhi emerged as the top three Indian destinations in terms of passenger numbers.
IndiGo has been steadily growing its presence in the UAE market. Earlier this year, the airline introduced direct flights between Bengaluru and Abu Dhabi and removed fuel charges on all domestic and international flights.
