In response to circulating rumours, the Abu Dhabi Police have officially denied claims that traffic fines in the emirate are being slashed by 50%. This misinformation, spread via social media, has prompted authorities to issue a clear statement to prevent further confusion among residents.
The police clarified that the only current discount available to motorists is part of an initiative encouraging early settlement of fines. Specifically, those who pay their fines within 60 days of the violation date can benefit from a 35% reduction. Additionally, fines paid after 60 days but within one year are eligible for a 25% discount.
Authorities emphasized the importance of verifying information before sharing it, urging residents to rely solely on official media sources. “Ensure the accuracy of information before sharing them,” the Abu Dhabi Police stated, highlighting the potential legal consequences of spreading false information.
Sharing false information is a serious offence in the UAE, with penalties including fines up to Dh200,000 and imprisonment. The police’s firm stance aims to maintain public order and trust in official communications.
For accurate updates and guidelines on traffic fine discounts, residents are advised to consult official channels and websites.
