The Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi Abu Dhabi has commenced the much-awaited admission process for undergraduate courses.
During the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the country last year, the Indian Ministry of Education and Abu Dhabi’s Education and Knowledge Department (ADEK) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish an IIT-Delhi campus in the UAE capital.
The Indian government funds IIT-Delhi, a premier technical and research institute.
For the academic year 2024-25, the IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi campus is offering two bachelor’s programmes: B. Tech. in computer science and engineering, and B. Tech. in energy engineering.
There are a total of 60 seats available, with each programme admitting 30 students. The first batch of students is expected to commence their studies in August or September.
Admission process
The admission process for the academic programmes will take place through two avenues: the Combined Admission Entrance Test (CAET) 2024 and the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE–Advanced) 2024. Details and eligibility criteria for JEE (Advanced) can be found at https://jeeadv.ac.in/index.html.
Eligibility criteria for CAET
Indians residing in the UAE, Emiratis, and international students may be eligible to take the CAET, based on the following five criteria:
•Candidates must attain at least 75 per cent aggregate marks (or its equivalent) in the Class/Grade XII (or equivalent) board examination, or must be in the top 20 percentile in their respective Class/Grade XII (or equivalent) board examination.
•Candidates should be born on or after October 1, 1999. Two-year age relaxation may be applicable as per UAE national policy.
•They can attempt the test a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.
•A candidate should have appeared for the Class/Grade 12 (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either the current year or the year immediately preceding.
•A candidate should not have been admitted to any IIT earlier, irrespective of whether or not the candidate continued in the programme or was accepted and then vacated an IIT seat.
•Shortlisting criteria for CAET
•Another requirement for eligibility for CAET 2024 is for applicants residing in the UAE to achieve a valid score in either EmSAT OR SAT.
Who is eligible to apply?
Indian nationals who are children of UAE residents living in UAE for at least the past five years and have completed their schooling from Class/Grade 10 to 12 in the UAE.
Apart from UAE and Indian nationals, the institution will consider candidates who obtained a Person of Indian Origin (PIO) or Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) card on or after March 4, 2021, as international students.
The institution will consider the marks obtained in five subjects for calculating the aggregate marks and the cut-off marks for percentile: physics, chemistry, mathematics, a language, and one additional subject other than these four.
Lastly, the institution will grant a one-year relaxation to UAE nationals who have served one year of compulsory military service, supported by a valid certificate.
