Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, commended the city’s resilience and its response to recovering from severe weather conditions in the UAE last week.
He praised Dubai’s capacity to overcome challenges and stressed that under the leadership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, the emirate will continue to enhance its global standing as a role model, despite facing situations like the extreme weather events in April.
Chairing a meeting of The Executive Council of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan lauded the efforts of government and emergency response teams, including the Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management in Dubai chaired by Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, in confronting the challenging situation posed by the severe weather conditions.
Sheikh Hamdan also praised businesses, the broader community, and volunteers for their collaboration and solidarity, stating, “Dubai has once again demonstrated the strength and unity of its society; one built on cohesion, solidarity, and readiness to confront challenges. Dubai is fortunate to have its people, and on behalf of the leadership, we express our gratitude.”
During the meeting, Sheikh Hamdan affirmed Dubai’s commitment to realising Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s vision of becoming one of the world’s most prepared, resilient, and adaptable cities, capable of transforming challenges into opportunities.
He expressed confidence in Dubai’s capability to address extreme weather events, acknowledging the competence demonstrated by teams who worked tirelessly before, during, and after the heavy rainfall to restore normalcy.
Sheikh Hamdan recognised the spirit of preparedness, unity, and cooperation among Dubai’s community, government, and businesses, which helped mitigate the impact of the extreme weather situation. He noted that the experience presents an opportunity to further enhance the emirate’s emergency response in the future.
During the meeting, Sheikh Hamdan instructed government entities to develop a comprehensive proactive plan to handle extreme weather events.
The Council also evaluated Dubai’s efforts to manage the adverse weather situations affecting the region.
Over 25,000 personnel and volunteers, along with approximately 5,000 security patrols, emergency vehicles, tankers, buses, and water pump operators, participated in the emergency response efforts.
