Saudi Arabia is set to host the prestigious MENA Climate Week in the Middle East and North Africa in Riyadh from October 8 to 12, in collaboration with the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The event aims to assess the progress made in implementing the goals of the Paris Agreement concerning climate change.
The event aims to contribute region-focused insights to the global stocktake ahead of COP28 in the UAE, advocating for decisive and inclusive climate action across major systems-based tracks. Topics include energy systems, urban infrastructure, land management, and societal impacts on health and economies.
Under the theme of “Global Assessment,” the MENA climate week will precede the twenty-eighth Conference of the Parties to Climate Conventions (COP28) in the UAE. It will serve as a platform to showcase the region’s efforts in climate action, review approaches to tackling climate change, and highlight its impact at local and regional levels.
The week-long event will see the participation of numerous ministers, officials, media professionals, energy and climate experts, UN representatives, and related bodies. It will feature a range of regional and international activities, exhibitions, and cultural events.
Discussions during the event will focus on identifying opportunities and collaborative efforts to address climate change and mitigate its effects. Participants will explore policies, investment opportunities, research and development initiatives, and technical solutions like renewable energy, energy efficiency promotion, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, and carbon dioxide removal.
The Saudi Ministry of Energy has already opened registrations for attending the week’s activities, with a diverse array of attendees expected to contribute to the vital discourse on combatting climate change and shaping a sustainable future.
