Despite long traffic queues on Dubai-Sharjah Al Ittihad Road, it has been revealed through Salik company data that the Al Mamzar Toll Gates are not the busiest in Dubai. Salik’s data highlights that the busiest toll gates in Dubai are situated on Sheikh Zayed Road, specifically Al Barsha, Al Safa and Al Garhoud. These three gates account for over 50% of the total trips recorded in 2022.
Salik company records show that as of December 31, 2022, 3.7 million vehicles were registered with Salik. Additionally, the number of electric vehicles with free-of-charge Salik tags more than doubled last year. The cost for motorists to use the Salik gates is AED 4.
Salik company’s data indicates that there was a 12% increase in the number of trips recorded in 2022 compared to the previous year, with a total of 539.1 million trips recorded.
In 2022, the Al Barsha toll gate contributed to 20% of the total road trips, followed by Al Safa at 19.1% and Al Garhoud at 14.5%. Al Mamzar North and Al Mamzar South accounted for 13% and 12%, respectively, followed by Al Maktoum (8.8%), Jebel Ali (7.1%), and Airport Tunnel (4.8%) gates in Dubai.
Salik, which is exploring new avenues for growth, recorded AED 1.89B in toll usage fees in 2022, an increase of 12% from the previous year’s AED 1.69B. The total amount of fines and penalties rose to AED 202M in 2022 as compared to AED 184M in 2021, according to the company’s data.
