Qatar’s government tender activity reached QR8.6 billion ($2.4 billion) in the first quarter of 2026, reflecting sustained public sector spending across infrastructure and key service industries, according to the Ministry of Finance.
Local companies secured the majority of awarded contracts, underscoring strong domestic participation in state procurement programmes. Moreover, foreign firms also maintained a significant presence, highlighting continued international engagement in Qatar’s project pipeline.
Strong growth in awarded contracts
According to the ministry, QR6.3 billion ($1.7 billion) in contracts were awarded to local companies during the quarter. Additionally, foreign companies secured QR2.3 billion ($631.7 million) in government tenders.
As a result, local firms accounted for the largest share of total awarded value. The ministry also noted that contracts awarded to local companies increased by 59% compared to the same period in 2025. Meanwhile, awards to foreign companies rose by 53% year-on-year, indicating broad-based growth in procurement activity.
Sector-wide participation across key industries
Government spending remained distributed across several priority sectors. The health sector, municipal and environment services, culture and sports, and energy were identified as the top-performing areas during the quarter.
Moreover, this sectoral spread reflects continued investment in both public services and long-term development projects. However, the ministry did not disclose individual contract details or specific project allocations.
Continued infrastructure and development momentum
The latest figures highlight ongoing momentum in Qatar’s public investment programme. Therefore, government procurement activity continues to support infrastructure expansion and service delivery improvements across multiple sectors.
Additionally, sustained tender volumes indicate steady demand for both local and international contractors. As a result, Qatar’s project pipeline remains active as the country advances its broader development and diversification objectives.
