The UAE’s nuclear regulator confirmed that the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant remains safe after a drone strike caused a fire in an external electricity generator area. Authorities said reactor operations, radiation levels, and public safety were not affected.
Officials in Abu Dhabi stated that emergency response teams swiftly contained the fire, which broke out outside the plant’s internal perimeter in the Al Dhafra region. No injuries were reported, while investigations are underway to identify the source of the drone involved.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the incident, describing it as a serious escalation and a threat to national security and critical infrastructure. The ministry reiterated that civilian and energy facilities should never be targeted under international law.
The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed there was no radiological impact at the facility and urged all parties to protect nuclear infrastructure amid ongoing regional tensions.
The incident comes as geopolitical tensions continue to rise across the Gulf, prompting regional authorities to strengthen monitoring and security measures around key infrastructure assets.
