Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially begun commercial operations of autonomous taxi services across Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah. This initiative is being rolled out in collaboration with Apollo Go and WeRide (Nasdaq: WRD), both recognised globally for their expertise in autonomous driving technologies.
WeRide’s fleet is accessible to users via the Uber app, while Tawasul Transport oversees fleet management and operational logistics. Meanwhile, Apollo Go, a subsidiary of Baidu, delivers its services through the Apollo Go app, working alongside Dubai Taxi Company to facilitate local operations.
The launch underscores Dubai’s continued focus on integrating smart mobility solutions, demonstrating its ability to convert strategic ambitions into tangible, real-world initiatives.
This milestone further strengthens Dubai’s appeal as a key hub for international autonomous driving firms. Its advanced infrastructure, clearly defined strategy, and readiness of smart systems continue to support innovation. The initiative also aligns with the goals of the Dubai Self-Driving Transport Strategy, reinforcing the emirate’s leadership in next-generation mobility.
Autonomous vehicles from Apollo Go and WeRide can now be booked through both the Uber and Apollo Go apps in Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah—two dynamic coastal districts—offering users a smooth and convenient ride-booking experience.
The initial rollout phase introduces 100 autonomous taxis into Dubai’s transport ecosystem, with plans to scale the fleet progressively in response to rising demand and the city’s long-term vision for advanced, technology-driven transportation.
