Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has completed 65 per cent of construction on a 1,500-metre bridge linking Sheikh Zayed Road directly to Dubai Harbour, reducing travel time from 12 minutes to just three.
Work has also progressed on supporting infrastructure, with around 90 per cent of utility relocation and upgrade works finished, alongside the implementation of approved traffic diversions.
These measures are helping maintain smooth traffic movement while construction continues according to schedule. The project is expected to be completed in the third quarter of this year.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the RTA Board of Executive Directors, said the project aligns with leadership directives to develop integrated infrastructure that supports Dubai’s rapid urban and economic growth.
He added that coordination between the RTA and private sector partners ensures transport projects remain aligned with wider urban development plans, particularly in new areas and waterfront destinations.
The project includes a bridge extending from Interchange 5 on Sheikh Zayed Road near the American University in Dubai, passing Al Naseem Street and Al Falak Street, crossing King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street, before connecting to Dubai Harbour Street.
The bridge spans 1,500 metres and features two lanes in each direction, with a capacity to handle up to 6,000 vehicles per hour.
Once completed, the new link is expected to significantly ease congestion and shorten travel time between Sheikh Zayed Road and Dubai Harbour.
Abdulla Binhabtoor, CEO of Shamal Holding, said the Dubai Harbour Bridge represents a major infrastructure milestone that strengthens connectivity and enhances the area’s position as an integrated maritime destination.
Dubai Harbour occupies a prime location between Bluewaters Island and Palm Jumeirah, close to landmarks such as Burj Al Arab. The destination features a mix of residential, retail and leisure developments, including 24 towers with around 7,500 apartments.
