Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has awarded a contract valued at AED289 million to strengthen Dubai’s water transmission network linked to the Hassyan water plant, one of the world’s largest seawater reverse-osmosis facilities.
Moreover, the project is being developed under the independent water producer model, supporting long-term capacity expansion and operational resilience.
Network expansion at Hassyan
The contract covers the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of glass-reinforced epoxy main water transmission lines. In addition, the pipelines will measure 1,200 millimetres in diameter and extend over 32 kilometres, reinforcing connectivity from the Hassyan site.
The works are scheduled for completion within 18 months. As a result, the network will gain additional strength to support rising water demand across the emirate.
Supporting water security strategy
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said the Hassyan water plant is a core pillar of Dubai’s water security system, aligned with the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036 and the Dubai Integrated Water Resource Management Strategy 2030. Furthermore, he noted that the new infrastructure will enhance network resilience and capacity.
Consequently, the investment is expected to improve sustainability and reliability across Dubai’s water infrastructure, supporting long-term supply needs for future generations.
