DP World’s biggest trade and logistics centre, Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), had a groundbreaking ceremony for the first phase of its new “Jafza Logistics Park,” which is expected to be completed in 2023.
The purpose-built warehousing, processing, and logistics development will accommodate Dubai’s rising warehousing, processing, and logistics activities.
Abdulla bin Damithan, the CEO and managing director of DP World UAE and Jafza, as well as the company’s executive team, were present for the groundbreaking.
The Jafza Logistics Park will build on the success of Jafza’s logistics cluster, which has increased by 14% since 2016. The project has a total leasable area of about 46,000 square metres, with storage accounting for 87 percent of the space. The remaining room is used for office purposes.
“We understand the importance of the logistics sector in allowing the expansion of numerous industries around the world. “Jafza is in line with important government objectives to stimulate economic growth, including the Dubai Silk Road strategy,” Abdulla bin Damithan stated.
“As the UAE continues to develop as a worldwide processing and re-distribution hub, demand for logistics and warehousing space has increased significantly.” In response to this surge in demand, we are constructing the Jafza Logistics Park to help the UAE’s logistics sector grow even further,” he stated.
The park’s current capabilities, including digital trade enablement, low costs, and customised units, he said, can assist logistics enterprises in the e-commerce and related growth industries.
“We’re in talks with a number of significant clients who require 60 to 80 percent of the space and may require phase two to be completed ahead of schedule.”
Over 460 enterprises from 30 countries are based in Jafza’s logistics cluster, with almost all of them already operating from the free zone. Jafza Logistics Park will help them achieve their business goals and attract new firms looking to enter the industry. The smallest unit will be just less than 2,900 square metres, including 360 square metres of mezzanine office space.
Customers will also be able to combine multiple units in order to satisfy their space needs.
