Expo City Dubai will be hosting the 28th annual Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in November. In celebration of this event, Emirates Post Group Company (EPG) and the Ministry of Culture and Youth have partnered to launch an initiative that invites youth to design a commemorative stamp.
In November 2023, the UAE will proudly host COP28, the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, at Expo City Dubai. This significant event aims to bring together nations worldwide to address the urgent and critical global challenge of climate change and to agree on bold, practical, and ambitious solutions.
COP28 holds particular importance as it signifies the culmination of the first Global Stocktake, which comprehensively assesses the progress made in achieving the goals set out in the Paris Agreement. Recognizing that the world has deviated from the intended path, the designated President of COP28, HE Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, is committed to keeping the 1.5°C temperature goal alive. He aims to ensure that the Stocktake results in a clear plan of action, including measures to bridge the gaps in progress. Additionally, COP28 will prioritize sustainable agriculture, fostering innovation in food production methods.
As the host country, the UAE will lead efforts to mobilize action for a significant course correction, accelerating emissions reductions while ensuring energy security. Dr. Al Jaber emphasizes the UAE’s role in bridging gaps and advancing international collaboration to support countries in the Global South and those most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
Calling All UAE Youth: Design the Official COP28 Commemorative Stamp
The purpose of the COP28 commemorative stamp is to highlight the commitment of Emirates Post Group to celebrate the UAE’s ambitions and achievements in the field of climate change. The initiative will involve workshops and educational sessions designed to familiarize participants with the various aspects and standards of stamp design. A panel of experts will evaluate the received designs, and cash prizes will be awarded to the top three designs. To participate in this initiative, interested candidates can register through a dedicated website by July 3.
Mubarak Al Nakhi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture and Youth, emphasized the importance of youth in driving creativity, innovation, and future foresight. He stated that the collaboration between Emirates Post Group and the Ministry aims to encourage young individuals to take part in designing the COP28 commemorative stamp. Moreover, this initiative aligns with the vision of empowering youth and equipping them with the necessary skills to achieve milestones, while also raising awareness of the UAE’s significant role in hosting COP28.
Abdulla Mohammed Alashram, the Group CEO of Emirates Post Group, expressed honor in launching this initiative to commemorate the global and historic event of hosting COP28. He highlighted the value of stamps as symbols of history and culture, capable of capturing and preserving significant moments. The hosting of COP28 represents a significant milestone in the UAE’s journey to combat climate change and promote sustainability on a global level.
