The UAE’s tourism sector has witnessed impressive growth in 2024, aligning with the objectives of the “UAE Tourism Strategy 2031.”
Regionally, the UAE ranked first and 18th globally in the World Economic Forum’s 2024 Travel & Tourism Development Index (TTDI). It also leads globally in travel and tourism data provision and air transport infrastructure. Additionally, the country ranks second in infrastructure and services and third in air transport efficiency and tourism policies.
A World Travel and Tourism Council report predicts the sector will contribute AED 236 billion to the national economy by year-end, making up 12% of the GDP. Hotel revenues reached AED 33.5 billion by September, reflecting a 4% rise. Hotel occupancy averaged 77.8%, one of the world’s highest, with stays increasing 8% to 75.5 million nights. Airports saw significant growth, handling over 103 million passengers by September, with projections of 150 million by year-end.
Key initiatives this year include the “National Tourism Charter” to unify efforts and promote Emiratisation in tourism, and the “World’s Coolest Winter Campaign,” which focuses on “Green Tourism” by supporting sustainable agriculture and eco-tourism.
These initiatives reflect the UAE’s commitment to sustainability and its ambition to strengthen its global tourism position.
