The UAE has formalised three cooperation agreements to foster sustainable development across Asia and Africa, emphasising environmental, social, and economic growth. These agreements align with the country’s humanitarian mission to support societal progress, enhance well-being, and address current and future challenges.
Louise Araneta, First Lady of the Philippines, and Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, witnessed the signing of two agreements.
The first agreement, between the UAE and the Philippines, aims to restore the Pasig River in Manila. Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga, the Philippines’ Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, and Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Director-General of the Clean Rivers Foundation, signed the agreement.
The second agreement established a partnership between the Clean Rivers Foundation and the “Borealis and Systemiq” initiative to enhance waste management in Indonesia. Signed by Deborah Bacchus, CEO of Clean Rivers Foundation, and Benjamin Dixon, Partner at Systemiq and Borealis, the agreement focuses on improving recycling, managing organic waste, and reducing pollution in marine environments. Al Qubaisi stressed Clean Rivers’ dedication to circular economy solutions and its transformative impact on waste management in Indonesia.
The third agreement, between the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation and the Tony Elumelu Foundation, aims to empower 1,000 African entrepreneurs through financial support and training. Mohammed Haji Al Khouri, Director-General of the Khalifa Foundation, and Tony Elumelu, Founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, finalised the agreement in the presence of Alia bint Abdulla Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Entrepreneurship.
