On World Environment Day, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, convened with entrepreneurs, youth, and officials at Qasr Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi to deliberate on environmental initiatives and innovative ideas fostering sustainability in the nation.
During the meeting, Sheikh Mohamed attentively listened to presentations from leaders of various environmental initiatives, highlighting their significance, scalability potential, and achieved outcomes. He commended the innovative solutions for their role in heightening awareness about environmental preservation and advancing towards a sustainable future.
Underlining the UAE’s commitment to leveraging all contributions and initiatives in the sustainability realm, Sheikh Mohamed emphasized the importance of individual and collective efforts in combating climate change. He stressed that environmental preservation is a shared responsibility, locally and globally.
Sheikh Mohamed reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to global collaboration for environmental goals, echoing the country’s dedication to the UAE Consensus from COP28. The UAE aims to enhance worldwide sustainability through effective programs and initiatives.
In a recent development, the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure partnered with the Technology Innovation Institute to create 3D maps of natural resources, supporting the Net Zero 2050 Strategy.
Moreover, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development has been instrumental in backing sustainable projects across 42 African countries. With investments totaling AED35.3 billion ($9.6 billion) over four decades, ADFD has significantly contributed to the advancement of sustainable initiatives in the region.Collaborating with the Africa50 fund, a UAE-led initiative of AED16.5 billion ($4.5 billion) was launched in 2023 to boost Africa’s clean energy infrastructure.
Solar PV and battery manufacturing plants accounted for the majority of these investments, underscoring the global momentum towards cleaner energy solutions.
As the UAE continues to champion sustainability initiatives and collaborate on global environmental efforts, the nation reaffirms its commitment to building a more sustainable and resilient future for generations to come.
