A recent publication by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has highlighted the outstanding performance of the UAE’s travel and tourism sector in 2024.
The industry contributed AED257.3 billion (USD70.1 billion) to the national GDP, representing 13% of the overall economy. This figure reflects a 3.2% increase compared to 2023 and an impressive 26% growth from 2019.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, commended the sector’s progress. He remarked, “The WTTC report presents a fresh indicator of our national economy’s strength and diversity, showcasing the UAE tourism sector’s exceptional milestones. Spending by international visitors surpassed AED217 billion last year, while domestic tourism generated AED57 billion. The UAE now ranks within the top seven global destinations for international tourist expenditure, ahead of nations that have been entrenched in the tourism sector for generations.”
He further stated, “We extend a warm welcome to tourists, take pride in drawing investors, value talent, and strive to create the finest environment for living, travel, and hospitality. Welcome to the world.”
Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism and Chairman of the Emirates Tourism Council, underlined that tourism plays a central role in the UAE’s approach to economic diversification and long-term development. He attributed the UAE’s accomplishments to forward-thinking policies and comprehensive tourism strategies that have distinguished the country as a prominent global destination.
