The UAE launched the National Zakat Platform on Tuesday, a government-backed digital portal designed to collect and manage zakat contributions from both individuals and businesses across the nation. The platform ensures full transparency and operates in strict compliance with Islamic law.
The initiative was introduced by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat at a formal ceremony attended by key officials, including Dr Omar Habtoor Al Darei, Chairman of the Authority; Shamma bint Suhail Al Mazrui, Minister of Community Empowerment; Dr Hamdan Musallam Al Mazrui, Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent; Ahmed Rashid Al Neyadi, Director-General of the Authority; Dr Issa Saif bin Handhal, Chairman of the Department of Islamic Affairs in Sharjah; alongside representatives from charitable organisations and partner entities.
He emphasised that the platform’s purpose extends beyond merely collecting zakat or promoting compliance. “The aim is to achieve accuracy in data, transparency in financial flows, effective statistical monitoring, and complete assurance that funds reach rightful beneficiaries,” he stated.
He further highlighted that strong institutional governance, transparency, and reliable data systems are crucial to prevent the misuse or diversion of zakat funds to unlawful activities. “Without precise oversight of zakat contributions and their allocation, the system remains exposed to uncertainty,” he added.
