The United Arab Emirates has launched a five-year multiple-entry tourist visa for Pakistani citizens, offering new flexibility in travel and reinforcing the close ties between both nations. UAE Ambassador to Pakistan Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi made the announcement during a meeting with Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori on April 8.
This policy allows Pakistani nationals to enter the UAE multiple times within five years, staying up to 90 days per visit. They can also extend their stay by another 90 days, giving visitors more time for family, business, or leisure.
Easier Family Visits and New Business Prospects
The UAE has removed previous hurdles that complicated the visa process. Applicants no longer need a local sponsor or host, which makes the process easier for individuals and families.
Ambassador Al-Zaabi emphasized the UAE’s hospitality, stating, “We will honour the applicants and provide full cooperation at the visa centre.” He described the approach as a “red carpet” welcome, showing the UAE’s intent to deepen connections with Pakistani nationals. The UAE is home to 1.5 to 2 million Pakistanis, the second-largest expatriate group in the country.
High Interest as Application Requirements Are Revealed
To apply, Pakistani citizens must meet several conditions:
- A minimum bank balance of $4,000 (approx. PKR 1.2 million) maintained over the past six months
- A valid UAE health insurance policy
- A return ticket
- Proof of accommodation during their stay
The announcement sparked excitement among Pakistani residents and travel professionals. Fariya Iqbal, a teacher in Sharjah, shared her optimism: “If this goes ahead smoothly, I know many people, including myself, who will seriously think about moving to the UAE.”
Awais Ahmed, an engineer in Dubai, welcomed the change: “Now, my parents can visit freely—for weddings, emergencies, or just to spend time with us. It removes a lot of stress.”
Travel agencies also noted a significant surge in inquiries. Dr. Zafar Tahir Rizvi of Vista Maritime said, “We’re receiving calls from Pakistanis in the Gulf, Europe, and even the US. Everyone wants to know how and when to apply.”
A Move to Restore Trust and Build Stronger Ties
This visa policy follows a period of stricter entry rules for Pakistani nationals, driven by concerns over legal compliance. In January 2025, UAE authorities clarified that Pakistanis with valid work visas can still enter the country, dismissing rumours of bans.
Governor Tessori praised the UAE’s friendly approach, saying, “I was welcomed on a red carpet—a gesture of their affection.” His comments reflect growing optimism about renewed cooperation and mutual respect between the two nations.
The UAE’s five-year visa policy marks a major step forward in enhancing travel, family reunification, and investment for Pakistani citizens. With high demand and simplified procedures, many now see the UAE as an even more accessible and welcoming destination. As applications begin, the initiative promises long-term benefits for both communities.
