In Dubai, e& UAE has introduced a significant enhancement to its existing 5.5G mobile network by activating four‑carrier aggregation for smartphones that are already on the market.
Four‑carrier aggregation refers to a network technology that allows a phone to connect to four distinct network channels at the same time, instead of operating on a single channel.
Imagine combining four separate internet lanes into one broad, high‑speed route for your device — resulting in quicker downloads and smoother streaming, especially beneficial in busy areas like malls or stadiums.
According to e&, compatible devices could reach top download speeds of over 4 gigabits per second.
The enhancement merges two kinds of spectrum — FDD for broader, dependable coverage and TDD for greater data capacity — aimed at improving practical mobile performance beyond just peak numbers.
e& stated that this technology increases network capacity and efficiency and can support data‑intensive applications like 8K video streaming, cloud gaming and advanced business uses. The rollout also shows broader support for 5.5G‑Advanced features in devices and network hardware.
Abdulrahman Al Humaidan, senior vice‑president for access network development at e& UAE, explained that the upgrade enhances the 5.5G network by offering consistent multi‑gigabit speeds and greater capacity across the country.
The firm added that the update will enable Voice over New Radio (VoNR) services and allow some current 4G spectrum to be repurposed for 5G, enhancing the network’s efficiency in the long run.
This news comes after recent achievements by e&, such as recording uplink speeds up to 600 Mbps on its live 5G network. The company also noted it is collaborating with international tech partners and handset manufacturers to broaden support for 5.5G‑Advanced capabilities on additional devices in the future.
