A two-month grace period, beginning on 1 September 2024, has been provided for individuals who have breached residency laws, allowing them to either amend their status or exit the country without facing penalties.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) has announced this grace period.
The authority has stated that violators can either rectify their status within the amnesty period or leave the country without incurring charges.
How to apply for a fine waiver
A specialised service allows violators to apply for an exemption or reduction of the financial penalties for breaches of the Foreigners’ Entry and Residence Law.
Required documents include a copy of the violator’s passport, a letter explaining the reasons for the violations and inability to pay, and any other documents requested by the Fines Committee.
The individual must visit the nearest Customer Happiness Centre (Amer), obtain an automated queue ticket, submit their application with all required documents (if any) to the customer service representative, and pay any service fees (if applicable).
The service is offered at the General Administration – Al Aweer Centre from Monday to Thursday, 7.30am to 7pm, and on Friday from 7.30am to 12 noon and 2.30pm to 7pm.
At Amer centres, the service is available during the officially designated working hours.
