In a recent initiative to enhance governmental efficiency and reduce bureaucratic hurdles, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has assessed the performance of various federal entities. This evaluation aims to identify both exemplary and underperforming departments, thereby fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the government.
Top-Performing Departments
Based on a comprehensive survey involving 55,000 respondents evaluating 30 government entities, the following departments have been recognised for their outstanding digital services:
1. Ministry of Interior: Leading the list, this ministry has been commended for its advanced digital initiatives that enhance public safety and security services.
2. Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA): Ranked second, the ICA has streamlined processes related to identity and citizenship, significantly benefiting residents and citizens alike.
3. Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation: This ministry has been acknowledged for its efficient digital platforms facilitating international relations and consular services.
Departments Needing Improvement
Conversely, the evaluation identified certain departments requiring immediate enhancements in their digital service delivery:
1. Ministry of Education: Highlighted as needing significant improvement, this ministry has been urged to upgrade its digital platforms to better serve students and educators.
2. Federal Tax Authority: This authority has been advised to enhance its digital interfaces to simplify tax-related procedures for businesses and individuals.
3. Securities and Commodities Authority: Identified as underperforming, this authority is expected to improve its digital services to better serve market participants.
Mandate for Underperforming Departments
Sheikh Mohammed has granted the underperforming entities a 90-day period to rectify and enhance their services. He emphasised the UAE government’s commitment to transparency and excellence, stating, “Underperforming departments are expected to amend their courses and achieve the best possible results within 90 days, by which time we will re-assess their performance in a way that ensures achievement of our main goal, namely whole-of-government digitisation.”
This initiative underscores the UAE’s dedication to fostering a responsive and efficient government that meets the evolving needs of its citizens and residents. By holding departments accountable and recognising excellence, the leadership aims to ensure that governmental services remain at the forefront of global standards.
