The UAE government has refuted claims that digital currency investors qualify for the golden visa programme. In a joint statement, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA), and Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) confirmed that no such provision exists.
Several websites and social media accounts had falsely claimed that investing in cryptocurrencies could lead to visa eligibility. Officials clarified that the golden visa follows strict and approved guidelines, which do not include crypto-related investments.
Golden Visa Criteria Remains Unchanged
According to the ICP, golden visas are only granted to select categories. These include:
- Real estate investors
- Entrepreneurs
- Exceptional talents
- Scientists and specialists
- Top-performing students and graduates
- Humanitarian pioneers and frontline workers
The authority emphasised that digital asset investments are not part of these criteria.
SCA Reaffirms Standards and Investor Confidence
The SCA also addressed the misinformation. It stated that all financial services in the UAE are regulated by internationally recognised standards. The authority aims to maintain a transparent and credible market that attracts quality investments.
Additionally, it confirmed that digital currencies follow specific regulatory rules. These rules are separate from those that govern golden visa issuance. The SCA urged investors to consult official sources and avoid misleading information.
VARA Urges Caution in Virtual Asset Engagement
Dubai’s VARA also denied the rumours. It said no golden visa options exist for crypto or virtual asset investors under its jurisdiction. The regulator reminded users to only engage with licensed and regulated platforms.
VARA added that all visa-related processes must follow the rules set by the Government of Dubai and relevant federal entities. It specifically noted that the company TON is neither licensed nor regulated by VARA.
The authority pledged to continue working with the SCA and law enforcement to ensure the safety of virtual asset markets. It also warned users to be vigilant of online scams and avoid unofficial advertisements.
Public Encouraged to Use Verified Channels
All three entities urged investors and residents to rely on official government websites for accurate updates. The public can find verified golden visa information at www.icp.gov.ae.
