Private sector employees in the UAE will enjoy a four-day holiday in June to mark Arafah Day and Eid Al Adha 2025, as announced by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE).
The holiday will start on Thursday, June 5 (9 Dhul Hijjah 1446 AH) and continue through Sunday, June 8 (12 Dhul Hijjah), including the weekend. Regular work will resume on Monday, June 9.
Fair Leave for All Employees
The official announcement followed the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent on Tuesday evening. According to the UAE’s Astronomy Centre, astronomers observed the crescent in several locations, confirming that Wednesday, May 28, is the first day of Dhul Hijjah.
Public sector workers will also benefit from the same holiday schedule. This comes under the UAE’s unified holiday policy, which ensures equal national holidays for all employees, regardless of sector. The policy aims to enhance work-life balance and social equity across the workforce.
Cultural and Spiritual Significance
Eid Al Adha, also called the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. The celebration includes prayers, charitable giving, and the ritual sacrifice of livestock, which is then shared with family, friends, and those in need.
This extended break offers residents time for reflection, celebration, and travel, while also promoting the spirit of generosity and community.
