D V Swamy, Chairman of India’s Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), has announced that the UAE has now become India’s ninth-largest market for seafood exports.
During the financial year 2023-2024, India achieved record-high seafood exports in terms of volume.In the fiscal year 2023-24, India exported 1.78 million metric tonnes of seafood valued at $7.38B. India’s fiscal year runs from 1st April to 31st March annually.
Frozen shrimp continued to dominate both in quantity and value as India’s major seafood export. According to Swamy, the Middle East region accounted for 28,571 metric tonnes of this product.
In the financial year 2023-24, the top 10 markets collectively constituted 79.89 percent of India’s seafood exports in US dollar terms.
Established by an act of India’s Parliament in 1972, the MPEDA is a statutory body responsible for promoting the export of Indian marine products.
