The UAE Cabinet, led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, has approved the nation’s official stance on international artificial intelligence (AI) policy.
This policy, developed by the Office of the Assistant Foreign Minister for Advanced Science and Technology and the Office of the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, marks a strategic advancement within the UAE’s foreign policy, addressing the complex challenges of AI globally.
Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, highlighted the UAE’s vital role in shaping global AI governance and international policies, emphasising proactive contributions to multilateral platforms aimed at establishing a responsible AI sector. He stated, “The UAE has emerged as a key player in global AI governance, actively participating in policy discussions and defining future standards.”
He noted that this policy will enhance the UAE’s global leadership in AI, ensuring that technological advancements align with societal well-being. Omran Sharaf, Assistant Foreign Minister for Advanced Science and Technology, added that such policies would strengthen the UAE’s position as a leader in AI development, fostering trust with strategic partners.
The policy is built on six core principles: Advancement, Cooperation, Community, Ethics, Sustainability, and Security, reflecting a commitment to ethical and social priorities in AI development.
Additionally, it aims to use AI to promote economic diversification and innovation while encouraging impactful technological solutions. The UAE will participate in international AI forums to influence technology development and advocate for transparency and accountability in AI tools. The policy also supports establishing global alliances for AI governance, implementing regulations to ensure AI security and privacy, and promoting responsible AI use through collaborative initiatives for peace and stability.
