The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has declared a cut of two working hours per day for employees in the private sector throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan.
UAE labour laws mandate that employers provide flexible arrangements for their staff during Ramadan.
The Ministry stated, “In line with the demands and nature of their work, companies may implement flexible or remote work patterns within the constraints of the daily working hours during Ramadan.”
This announcement aligns with the implementation of Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021 on the Regulation of Labour Relations and its amendments.
Simultaneously, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) issued a circular establishing the official working hours for federal authorities’ employees during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
As per the circular, the official working hours for ministries and federal authorities will be from 9 am to 2:30 pm from Monday to Thursday and from 9 am to 12 pm on Friday.
FAHR emphasized that ministries and federal authorities could adopt flexible or remote work schedules during Ramadan, considering their specific needs and within the confines of the approved daily working hours.
The Authority also pointed out that federal government departments would permit a maximum of 70 percent of their staff to work from home on Fridays during Ramadan, following the approved regulations, according to Arabian Business.
