The UAE and Germany have officially launched the UAE-Germany Business Council (GUBC) in a high-level ceremony in Berlin. The event was witnessed by Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Special Envoy to Germany, alongside Katherina Reiche, Germany’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy.
Held during Dr. Al Jaber’s official visit to Germany, the ceremony brought together over 150 business leaders and senior officials from both countries. The newly established council reflects more than 50 years of bilateral economic cooperation and marks a key step in advancing strategic trade and investment ties.
Strengthening long-standing bilateral ties
The UAE-Germany Business Council aims to create new avenues for economic collaboration and enhance sustainable development in an evolving global economy. It is expected to empower the private sector and support partnerships in vital sectors, including advanced technology, energy, and infrastructure.
“In line with our leadership’s vision for inclusive progress, we are committed to elevating the UAE-Germany relationship to new heights,” said Dr. Al Jaber. “The Council will unlock new opportunities, foster private sector collaboration, and contribute to sustainable economic development.”
Charter signed by UAE and German representatives
The official signing of the Business Council charter took place during the ceremony. Representing the UAE, Musabbeh Al Kaabi, Executive Director of Low Carbon Solutions and International Growth at ADNOC, signed the charter. Representing Germany was Günther Oettinger, former Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg and Co-Chair of the Council.
Al Kaabi remarked, “The UAE and Germany share a future-focused vision for progress. With innovation at the core, our evolving partnership will be accelerated through the Council, enabling sustainable growth and meaningful cooperation.”
Clean energy agreement strengthens climate cooperation
During the event, Masdar, the UAE’s clean energy champion, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with EnBW – Energie Baden-Württemberg, one of Europe’s largest energy firms. The MoU will explore collaboration on battery energy storage projects in both Germany and the UK.
Additionally, the two companies will assess joint opportunities in offshore wind, particularly in the North Sea and Baltic Sea, as well as potential developments in green hydrogen and other renewable energy technologies.
