Sultan Al Neyadi, the Emirati hero who made history as the first Arab astronaut to spend six months on the International Space Station, has been named the UAE’s Minister of State for Youth.
The reshuffle, influenced by public nominations for the position, sees Dr. Al Neyadi taking on a crucial role that aligns with the nation’s commitment to empowering its youth.
Sheikh Mohammed expressed his confidence in Dr. Al Neyadi’s ability to balance his scientific and space duties with the new responsibilities.
In September, the government launched a search for a Youth Minister, encouraging young Emiratis to express their interest in the role, culminating in the recent announcement.
Sheikh Mohammed stressed the significance of fostering youth deeply rooted in their culture and history, all the while aspiring to reach for the stars.
Reshaping Leadership: Notable Changes in the UAE Cabinet
As part of the reshuffle, Mariam Almheiri, former Minister of Environment and Climate Change, will now lead the international affairs office at the Presidential Court. Dr. Amna Al Shamsi succeeds Almheiri, swiftly rising to a cabinet post.
Moreover, Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, assumes an expanded role as Deputy Prime Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs, reflecting the government’s strategic focus.
In another key appointment, Mohammed Fadel Al Mazrouei, previously an undersecretary in the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court and an adviser to the Presidential Court, is now Minister of State for Defence Affairs.
Sheikh Mohammed expressed optimism for the year ahead, stating that 2024 would be a historic and exceptional year for the Emirates. He extended his best wishes to Sultan Al Neyadi, highlighting the importance of youth rooted in their heritage and culture reaching for new heights.
This appointment follows Dr. Al Neyadi’s return from a six-month mission aboard the International Space Station in September, signifying the government’s commitment to integrating space and scientific expertise into key leadership roles.
