Food Tech Valley, an initiative led by the UAE government to establish a sustainable food ecosystem, has made significant progress with a new partnership with Spinneys.
Under a 27-year agreement, Spinneys will construct a large 500,000 square foot processing facility within Food Tech Valley. This facility will enhance the capabilities of the Valley, turning it into a more comprehensive hub for food technology and innovation.
The investment from Spinneys will contribute to increasing the UAE’s domestic food production capacity, thus reducing reliance on imports.
Spinneys’ CEO Sunil Kumar emphasised the company’s commitment to the well-being of customers and communities, stating, “As a homegrown brand, we have always championed local farmers and food producers. Our partnership with Food Tech Valley holds particular significance.”
Food Tech Valley aims to bolster food security. Rashed Mohammad, chief real estate officer of Wasl, remarked, “The addition of the Spinneys facility further strengthens our commitment to transforming the food sector and positioning Dubai as a hub for food innovation, sustainability, and security. We look forward to supporting the UAE’s food security with partners who share our commitment to sustainable growth.”
With over 90 per cent of food in the UAE currently imported, Food Tech Valley is essential for developing a more sustainable and self-sufficient food ecosystem, aligning with the UAE government’s goal of becoming a global leader in food security by 2051.
The Valley is set to feature a range of facilities, including production zones, warehousing, logistics, cold-storage facilities, an innovation and R&D centre, an academy, a business park, a marketplace, a visitor centre, and residential areas.
