Abu Dhabi-based SpaceTech company Space42 has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) to advance the development of AI and geospatial solutions for the emirate.
The collaboration will leverage Space42’s capabilities in satellite imaging and data analytics alongside DMT’s expertise in urban planning to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s infrastructure management and sustainability initiatives.
As part of the agreement, the partners will create digital twins of the city to simulate transport networks, green spaces, and energy usage, supporting data-driven decisions across urban systems.
“Cities are living systems, and data is their heartbeat,” said Hasan Al Hosani, CEO of Smart Solutions at Space42. “Our partnership with DMT aligns national priorities with Space42’s vision to become a global leader in geospatial intelligence AI platform services, making cities smarter, safer, and more responsive to people’s needs. Together, we are helping shape Abu Dhabi’s global leadership in AI-enabled city management.”
Dr Saif Sultan Al Nasri, Acting Undersecretary of the DMT, described the partnership as “a major step forward” in Abu Dhabi’s smart city evolution. “Through this collaboration with Space42, we are harnessing advanced geospatial data to gain deeper insights into how our urban environments function, enabling us to design a more agile, adaptive, and future-ready city infrastructure,” he said.
Under the MoU, Space42 will deliver satellite data services and AI mapping tools to assist DMT in planning, maintaining, and expanding the emirate’s infrastructure. The partnership will also introduce pilot projects, training programmes, and joint research exploring the use of space technologies in sustainable urban development.
This initiative supports Abu Dhabi’s Government Digital Strategy 2025–2027, which allocates AED13 billion towards advancing AI and cloud technologies to enhance public services and digital transformation efforts.
