The national plan for the next ten years has been revealed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai. The “We The UAE 2031” plan provides the nation with a clear road map for social, economic, and investment development over the following ten years.
The national plan is a comprehensive programme that focuses on social, economic, investment, and development issues in order to shape the destiny of the nation over the course of the following ten years. The strategy comprises objectives for the UAE’s society, economy, and diplomacy. By 2031, the UAE hopes to expand its GDP to $816 billion and its foreign trade to $1.09 trillion under the plan.
Additionally, the plan will place the UAE among the top ten nations in the world for healthcare, help it rank among the top ten cities in the world, and help it advance the global environmental agenda. The goal of the plan is to strengthen the nation’s standing as a significant trading partner and a desirable and powerful economic centre.
Furthermore, it strives to draw attention to the UAE’s prosperous economic structure and the prospects it offers to all international partners. According to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, “We The UAE 2031” will direct the nation’s advancement toward a future that is more accomplished and advanced and in which all institutions will work together within a single ecosystem.
During the annual meetings of the Government, Sheikh Mohammed stated: “we launched the ‘We The UAE 2031’. Under my brother Mohamed bin Zayed’s guidance, it serves as a representation of our government’s goal for the upcoming ten years as we embark on a national journey to new heights. The UAE will maintain its position as an economic destination. Economic prosperity, social well-being and development of human capital will be the main pillars of the next 50.”
According to Sheikh Mohammed, the “next fifty” will be centred on enhancing the social and economic ecology and creating a robust, long-lasting, and rapidly expanding economy by increasing the UAE’s business ties with other nations and securing its development model.
Sheikh Mohammed emphasised that “We The UAE 2031” is a national strategy that will guide the UAE’s development over the following ten years. This occurred at the Abu Dhabi Annual Government Meetings, which brought together all federal and local UAE government agencies to examine obstacles and potential solutions for the nation’s national development plan and the “UAE Centennial 2071” objectives.
A charter for the national plan was signed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and it encapsulates the key elements of the plan, the guiding principles of UAE government, interdependence, and aspirations for the future.
National Elements
The strategy is built upon four major pillars that span all industries and fields, including the economy, society, ecosystem, and diplomacy.
Future Society
The goal of this pillar is to make society prosperous by giving citizens every support possible and creating an integrated system to provide them more power and skills so they can contribute as effectively as possible across all spheres.
This pillar also emphasises fostering and boosting family cohesion. The education sector will also be included in the “Forward Society” as a major axis for building up national cadres and supplying talent with training and educational resources.
The strategy intends to advance the healthcare industry in the UAE by modernising its offerings and provide the finest medical care to the local populace. With the aid of this pillar, the UAE national plan hopes to elevate both its cities and the country as one of the top 10 in the world for both human development and urbanisation.
The strategy will be crucial in strengthening the UAE’s status as the top location in the region for receiving medical care. The strategy will also help all medical institutions and personnel become fully prepared, advancing the nation’s ranking to one of the top 10 in the world for healthcare quality.
Advancing Economy
In addition to speeding the pace of change in the energy sector and the reliance on alternative sources of energy to strengthen the nation’s efforts in the green economy, this pillar will design policies and programmes that help achieve high economic growth across all sectors.
The Forward Economy pillar highlights the UAE’s view that human capital is crucial for the 10-year growth plan’s primary engine. The UAE wants to be one of the top 10 destinations for international talent.
Through this pillar, the GDP is expected to reach AED3 trillion ($816 billion) and non-oil exports are expected to reach AED800 billion ($217 billion). Additionally, AED4 trillion ($1.09 trillion) more will be spent on foreign commerce, and AED450 billion ($123 billion) more will be spent on tourism, all of which would increase their GDP contributions.
Positive diplomacy
One of the primary components of the national strategy that establishes the parameters of the country’s foreign involvement is “Forward Diplomacy.” The UAE’s foreign policy has been built on a set of principles since the Union’s founding, and these principles aim to strengthen the cornerstones of peace and mutual cooperation at both the regional and global levels. According to the strategy, the UAE will continue to play a significant role and exert significant influence in the world.
The strategy aims to improve the UAE’s connections with other nations, increase its international presence, cooperation, and friendship, and promote constructive discourse around the globe. In order to achieve qualitative advancements in climate neutrality and to solidify the nation’s status as an innovative hub for sustainability, research, and technology, the plan places a high value on enhancing the UAE’s role as a supportive force for the global environmental agenda.
Progressive Ecosystem
The best government services in the world will be offered, and the most adaptable business models will be created, according to the fourth pillar of the “We The UAE 2031” plan, which aims to improve government performance.
With the best social, food, water, and digital security, the nation aims to solidify its place as one of the safest nations in the world. This pillar concentrates on infrastructure and its modern technological development. The creation of digital infrastructure falls under this pillar.
This pillar also aims to make the country the top-ranked nation in the world for creating proactive legislation for new economic sectors, improving the nation’s position to be first globally in the safety index, as well as raising the nation’s position to one of the top three countries in the global cybersecurity index and one of the top 10 countries in the global food security index.
The “We The UAE 2031” road map outlines how all branches of government, the private sector, and other organisations will work together to promote the development process throughout the course of the plan’s ten-year lifespan.
