H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council, has endorsed the Architectural Identity for Dubai’s road projects, designed to elevate the architectural character of urban elements across the emirate’s interconnected network of roads, corridors, and streets.
The initiative supports Dubai’s wider ambition to build a sustainable, fully integrated city that enhances the overall quality of life for residents and enriches the experience of visitors.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan also examined the progress of the Trade Centre Roundabout and Al Mustaqbal Street enhancement works, which involve constructing seven bridges and three tunnels stretching 6,500 metres, at a total cost of AED1.3 billion.
Covering seven major residential and development districts—including Dubai World Trade Centre, Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), Emirates Towers, the Museum of the Future, and Downtown Dubai—the projects are set to benefit more than one million people and cut travel times by up to 75 percent.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan further reviewed the Dubai Tunnels initiative, which seeks to transform key infrastructure into cultural and artistic landmarks by collaborating with local artists to create murals across several road tunnels.
Upon his arrival at the Trade Centre Roundabout project site, Sheikh Hamdan was received by Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Al Tayer briefed him on the scope of Dubai’s road and transport network, which spans over 25,000 lane-kilometres and accommodates more than 3.5 million vehicles daily.
Dubai has achieved international acclaim for the rapid and efficient development of its transport infrastructure. RTA builds an average of 829 lane-kilometres of roads annually—more than twice the global benchmark of around 400 lane-kilometres.
