The Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) has started implementing the directive of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to set the annual fees for holders of home licences in the Friday Market and nearby shops in Mleiha at AED 1.
This initiative reflects His Highness’s ongoing commitment to empowering citizens and supporting local business participation. By reducing the fee to a nominal amount, the directive encourages greater access to markets and helps individuals participate in entrepreneurial activities. It also underscores the Ruler’s dedication to promoting sustainable economic growth and inclusive development across the Emirate.
Supporting Home-Based Entrepreneurs
Hamad Ali Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Chairman of the Sharjah Economic Development Department, expressed his appreciation for the directive, noting its importance in strengthening local enterprise. He said that the department values this area highly because His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah always encourages citizens to access markets, get involved in business, and promote their initiatives.
He further stated that the “I’timad” licence plays a vital role in regulating home-based commercial activities while motivating Emirati men and women to contribute to the economy. Moreover, it supports their ideas and initiatives to invest in private ventures, thereby enhancing the entrepreneurial ecosystem within Sharjah.
Promoting Economic Participation
Through this decision, the Emirate continues to foster an environment that enables citizens to easily start and expand small-scale enterprises. The reduced licence fee not only provides financial relief but also reinforces Sharjah’s strategy of supporting home-grown businesses. As a result, this initiative is expected to boost community participation, promote innovation, and further strengthen the local market.
