The Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) has given the green light to a new proposal for real estate leasing in Sharjah for 2024, as reported by the State news agency WAM.
Council members convened to examine and assess the proposal, with representatives from the Sharjah government legal department and Sharjah Municipality also in attendance.
Dr Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Chair of the Council, presided over the session. Discussions centred on the proposal, alongside reviews of reports from the legislative and legal affairs committee, according to WAM.
Councillor Dr Mansour Mohammed bin Nassar, Head of Sharjah government’s legal department, expressed gratitude for the Council’s contribution to finalising the legislative process. He emphasised the necessity of regulating the landlord-tenant relationship in compliance with Sharjah’s laws.
The existing law, established in 2007, is nearly 17 years old and requires updating to adapt to current developments, the report noted.
Khaled Falah Al Suwaidi, Director of Customer Service at Sharjah Municipality, highlighted that the proposal includes provisions aimed at boosting Sharjah’s tourism, investment, and residential sectors.
Members also deliberated on the proposal’s clauses and its goals of overseeing landlord-tenant dynamics. Government representatives addressed inquiries about the legal interpretation of clauses and their enforcement.
“At its fifth plenary session, the Council endorsed a proposal for real estate leasing in Sharjah for 2024, marking the second proposal the Council will review at the onset of its eleventh legislative term. As the session concluded, the Council’s Secretary-General, Ahmed Saeed Al-Jarwan, announced that the forthcoming meeting will address the Council’s recommendations regarding the policy of the Sharjah Tourism and Commerce Development Authority,” WAM reported.
