The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry discussed ways to enhance economic cooperation and develop investment partnerships with Nepal, with a focus on opening new opportunities for the emirate’s business community. The discussions took place during a high-level meeting at the Chamber’s headquarters, reflecting Sharjah’s broader strategy to deepen international trade ties.
During the meeting, Abdallah Sultan Al Owais reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment that enables companies to scale operations from Sharjah, supported by its strategic location and diversified economic growth. Moreover, he encouraged Nepalese businesses to leverage international platforms hosted by Expo Centre Sharjah, including ACRES, SteelFab, and the Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show.
Tej Bahadur Chhetri expressed appreciation for the Chamber’s role in strengthening bilateral economic relations and, therefore, stressed his interest in advancing cooperation into sustainable and strategic partnerships. Discussions focused on priority investment sectors in Nepal, including hydropower, tourism, information technology, ready-made garments, and agriculture, while Chandra Prasad Dhakal highlighted interest in establishing Nepalese enterprises in Sharjah’s investor-friendly ecosystem.
Trade promotion and institutional collaboration
Both sides agreed to establish a framework for exchanging information related to participation in major trade exhibitions. As a result, the Sharjah Chamber shared Expo Centre Sharjah’s 2026 events agenda with the Nepalese delegation. In return, the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry extended a formal invitation for the Chamber to attend its annual general meeting in April in Nepal.
The meeting also underscored the importance of institutional collaboration in facilitating market access, supporting business networking, and encouraging cross-border investment flows between Sharjah and Nepal.
Strengthening ties with Sri Lanka
In a related meeting, the Sharjah Chamber also explored avenues to strengthen economic cooperation with Sri Lanka, focusing on strategic sectors such as renewable energy, food security, and logistics. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais highlighted opportunities for Sri Lankan companies to expand their regional presence through flagship commercial events hosted in Sharjah.
Alexi Gunasekara praised the Chamber’s ongoing support and, therefore, noted Sharjah’s role as a gateway for Sri Lankan products to access international markets. Discussions also covered preparations for upcoming economic events and planned high-level visits, including engagements involving senior Sri Lankan economic officials.
Additionally, the Sri Lankan Consul General formally invited the Sharjah Chamber to lead a business delegation to Sri Lanka. As a result, both sides signalled interest in exploring joint cooperation, strategic partnerships, and supply chain expansion across sectors such as textiles, gemstones, and related industries.
