The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has met with a delegation from Costa Rica’s Foreign Trade Promoter (PROCOMER) to explore improving reciprocal participation in trade exhibitions hosted by both countries. They also discussed enhancing communication between business leaders to boost investment, economic cooperation, and joint exports across key sectors.
The meeting, held at SCCI’s headquarters, involved Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director-General of the Chamber, and Mario Sáenz, Director of Exports at PROCOMER. Fatima Khalifa Al-Muqrab, Head of the International Relations Department at SCCI, and other officials were also present.
During the meeting, SCCI invited the Costa Rican delegation to the Emirates Perfumes and Oud Exhibition in October 2024, organised by Expo Centre Sharjah with Chamber support, highlighting SCCI’s commitment to bilateral trade. In return, the delegation invited the Sharjah Chamber to visit Costa Rica’s stands at the World of Coffee and GITEX exhibitions in Dubai to explore Costa Rican products.
Mohammed Al Awadi emphasised the potential for commercial cooperation and export growth with Costa Rica, thanks to the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Bilateral non-oil trade reached $65M in 2023 and is expected to grow further.
Al Awadi also noted Sharjah’s expansion in logistics, technology, and media, aligning with the emirate’s goals of attracting foreign investment and promoting innovation. The Costa Rican delegation showcased PROCOMER’s initiatives in technology, gaming, AI, and media, and expressed a desire to increase trade and establish partnerships to boost Costa Rican exports, particularly in food. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing trade and investment opportunities for mutual growth.
