The Sharjah Exports Development Centre (SEDC) represented the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) in leading a trade mission to Uganda and Kenya. The mission took part in the Sharjah-Kenya Business Forum in Nairobi during its first leg.
The primary goal of the forum was to explore investment opportunities in the two countries and encourage their business communities to invest in sectors aligning with the national visions of the UAE and Kenya. This initiative supports both nations’ ambitions for sustainable economic development.
Distinguished Figures Attend Sharjah-Kenya Business Forum
rominent figures, including Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI; Dr. Salem Ibrahim Al Naqbi, UAE Ambassador to Kenya; Ronald Meru, Chair of Economic Diplomacy for the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, among others, attended the event.
Abdullah Sultan Al Owais emphasized the forum’s importance in strengthening UAE-Kenya bilateral trade. In 2022, Kenyan imports from the UAE rose by 47 percent, reaching US$3,458,269, and the UAE’s imports from Nairobi increased from US$315.268 million in 2021 to US$373.679 million in 2022.
Dr. Salem Ibrahim Al Naqbi praised the strategic partnership between the UAE and Kenya, highlighting the UAE’s commitment to advancing relations with Kenya through development projects and bilateral exchanges, according to WAM.
The Sharjah Exports Development Centre organized bilateral working sessions between Sharjah Chamber delegation members and Kenyan representatives. These sessions allowed for knowledge exchange, exploration of investment opportunities in various economic sectors, and discussions about enhancing mutual cooperation to establish partnerships benefiting the private sector.
The Sharjah Chamber trade mission will continue its Africa tour with a visit to Uganda from 8-10 November, where the Sharjah-Uganda Business Forum will take place, including working sessions, bilateral meetings, and field tours of economic institutions and establishments in Uganda.
