The Saudi Ports Authority, known as Mawani, has made an announcement regarding the addition of King Abdulaziz Port to the Upper Gulf Express shipping service provided by container liner MSC.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, Saudi Arabia will commence a new route in late May that will connect the hub in Dammam with the Arabian Gulf ports of Khalifa, Sharjah, and Umm Qasr.
Utilizing a 4,000-TEU vessel, this pan-GCC cargo link will not only enhance regional trade but also contribute to achieving the goals outlined in the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to bolster the Kingdom’s competitive position as a prominent investment destination in the global maritime industry.
King Abdulaziz Port, recognized as a center of excellence in logistics, and equipped with advanced facilities and capabilities, has been consistently setting operational records, such as handling 18,553 TEUs on a single ship in March.
The Saudi government established the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) in 1976 with the purpose of creating and overseeing a highly efficient system for constructing and managing ports in Saudi Arabia. The authority actively oversees the advanced Saudi ports system, which enjoys wide recognition as one of the most developed in the region and globally. It holds a prominent position among the ports in the area, primarily due to its strategic location on a crucial corridor that connects Asia, Europe, and Africa. This positioning has transformed Saudi ports into vital hubs for international trade and significant contributors to maritime navigation activities.
