According to reports, Australia has withdrawn from the competition to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, leaving Saudi Arabia as the sole candidate to host the international football event.
“We have explored the opportunity to bid to host the FIFA World Cup and – having taken all factors into consideration – we have reached the conclusion not to do so for the 2034 competition,” Football Australia said in a statement.
“Instead, we believe we are in a strong position to host the oldest women’s international competition in the world, the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026, and then welcome the greatest teams in world football for the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup,” the statement further explained.
Saudi Arabia’s Official Bid for the 2034 FIFA World Cup
Last month, Saudi Arabia formally submitted its bid to host the World Cup after declaring its intention in early October, as reported by Arabian Business.
Yasser Al Misehal, President of SAFF, expressed during the announcement that this submission marks the second stage of an exciting journey for the nation.
He stated, “Last week, we revealed our ambitions to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, and this official submission is a significant step towards turning the dreams of our people into a reality.”
