Saudi Arabia has Introduced biometric e-gate scanners at a significant airport within the Kingdom. The General Directorate of Passports has initiated the first phase of e-Passport gates to simplify processes for travellers at Terminals 3 and 4 in King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.
The opening ceremony was graced by President of the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) Abdullah bin Sharaf Alghamdi and President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al Duailej.
Director General of the General Directorate of Passports Sulaiman bin Abdulaziz Al-Yahya and Director of the National Information Centre (NIC) Esam Abdullah Alwagait were also in attendance, according to Arabian Business.
Al-Yahya stressed that the introduction of e-gates at King Khalid International Airport is aimed at enabling travellers to complete their travel procedures independently, without human intervention.
Moreover, he highlighted that these gates will economise time and effort for travellers whose biometric characteristics (fingerprints) are stored in the passport systems.
Al-Yahya affirmed that the deployment of e-gates is part of continuous endeavours to enhance travel procedures for citizens, residents, and visitors, whilst enhancing the services offered by the directorate through the adoption of efficient smart and digital solutions.
