Samsung’s UAE retailers have reduced the prices of the earlier version of the Galaxy S smartphone series by up to Dh1,000-Dh1,200 as the latest flagship model, Galaxy S23, enters the market. This move is a strategic one to gain market share for both the S23 and S22 models.
According to a top retailer for the brand in the UAE, this marks the beginning of the battle for market share in 2023, and Samsung is looking to take an early lead. The retailers are leaving it up to the customers to decide whether they want to buy the latest model or the previous one at a lower price. Pre-orders for the Galaxy S23 are reportedly strong, and local telecom giants are offering packages with free add-ons valued at Dh1,000 or more.
Ashish Panjabi, the Chief Operating Officer at Jacky’s Electronics, stated that they are offering instant pre-orders with same-time delivery as per the availability of stocks. According to Saleem Javed, the co-founder of Dubai-based Touch Tel, the Galaxy S23 model is exceptional in terms of aesthetics and battery life, which will attract Samsung enthusiasts to buy the device. However, buyers who are not necessarily fans of the brand may wait a few weeks to see if prices will drop or if retailers will offer more free add-ons before making a purchase.
According to sources, Apple’s current version, the iPhone 14, is seeing price drops of 3-5 percent in comparison. Despite supply issues towards the end of 2022, demand for the iPhone 14 remains strong. The iPhone 14 Pro is reportedly selling well, and supply issues have mostly been resolved, with consistent stock levels available for most colours. However, larger price drops are being observed on the iPads and previous versions of the MacBook range.
Regarding the S23, there are currently no discounts available due to pre-order bundles being offered. Retailers will assess the stock situation in the UAE after Ramadan and consider stocks from other regions.
