Salik Company PJSC, the sole operator of Dubai’s toll gate system, has announced that it will implement a variable pricing scheme for tolls, following instructions from the Road and Transport Authority (RTA). This new pricing structure is set to be introduced by the end of January 2025 and aims to streamline traffic flow while enhancing the overall efficiency of the city’s transport network.
The RTA’s decision comes after comprehensive studies highlighted the necessity for a flexible toll system that adjusts rates based on the time of day, thereby reducing congestion and optimizing traffic management. The variable pricing model will also incorporate specific periods during which tolls will be waived.
Details of the Variable Pricing Structure
The new toll pricing system has been outlined to operate during peak, off-peak, and late-night hours as follows:
Time Period | Weekdays | Sundays (excluding public holidays and events) |
---|---|---|
Peak Hours (6:00 AM – 10:00 AM, 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM) | AED 6 | AED 4 |

Statement from Salik CEO
Ibrahim Sultan Al Haddad, CEO of Salik, shared his thoughts on the initiative: “Road and Transport Authority (RTA) studies have clearly indicated the need for the implementation of variable pricing across Dubai’s toll road network. The instruction Salik has received today, is expected to improve the travel experience of road users in Dubai.”
Financial Projections and Impact
The introduction of variable pricing is anticipated to contribute significantly to Salik’s revenue. Initial estimates suggest that this new system could generate an additional annual revenue of between AED 60 million to AED 110 million. This added income is expected to bolster Salik’s capacity to invest in infrastructure enhancements and further optimize the road network.
