Salik Company PJSC, the exclusive toll gate operator in Dubai, has been tasked by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to introduce two additional toll gates to alleviate congestion and enhance traffic efficiency on key routes in Dubai.
The new toll gates will be positioned at Business Bay Crossing on Al Khail Road and Al Safa South on Sheikh Zayed Road, between Al Meydan Street and Umm Al Sheif Street.
RTA Selects Toll Gate Locations Using Traffic Studies to Ease Congestion
These locations were chosen based on comprehensive traffic movement studies conducted by the RTA, aiming to manage traffic distribution and alleviate congestion by diverting some vehicles to alternative routes with greater capacity.
The objective is to facilitate smoother and more efficient travel for all motorists in Dubai.
The two new toll gates are set to commence operations in November 2024, expanding Salik’s total toll gates in Dubai from eight to ten.
Similar to Al Mamzar North and South, Al Safa South will be linked to the existing Al Safa gate (Al Safa North), allowing commuters to be charged only once if they pass through both gates within one hour in the same direction.
Ibrahim Sultan Al Haddad, CEO of Salik Company PJSC, emphasized that the introduction of these gates aligns with RTA’s goal of optimizing travel time, reducing congestion, and enhancing overall mobility in the city.
Under the concession agreement with RTA, Salik will manage the civil works for constructing, operating, and maintaining the toll gates. Salik will hold the exclusive right to operate the gates until June 2071.
RTA anticipates that the Business Bay Crossing gate will lead to a 12-15 percent improvement in traffic congestion on Al Khail Road and reduce traffic volume by 10-16 percent on Al Rabat Street. It is also expected to redirect traffic to Al Maktoum and Al Garhoud bridges, along with Ras Al Khor Street, according to Arabian Business.
Similarly, the Al Safa South gate is projected to decrease right-turn traffic from Sheikh Zayed Road to Meydan Street by 15 percent and enhance traffic flow on Financial Centre, First Al Khail, and Al Asayel streets.
